PANORAMA

Just a few panorama photos taken with the iphone.

Cheers

IGUANA

Currently on vacation in saint barth, I felt like posting a photo of this iguana. Iguanas are very shy animals and tend to distance themselves from humans upon being approached. They will usually come onto the deck to drink left over rain water or to eat seeds from the palm tree. Other than the iguanas we also quite often have turtles, cats, and even hermit crabs.

The nature is astoundingly rich and completely unusual for this area. Saint barth is typically a rock in the middle of the ocean that is often ravaged by hurricanes and other tropical storms. However, because of the abscence of any of the latter for the past 12 years, the vegetation has sprung up and out giving us a rich environment which will probably be reclamed by mother nature.

There are many things about this island that remain a mystery and that I will probably never know anyways. The people who are originally from this island, for example, are a people who fascinate me. French farmers left by the king on a stone island with no natural source of water - in the 17th century. These people (who are still here today devided into 14 families) speak a language similar to Patois and mostly have their origines from Brittany. They tend to not associate with 'metros' or people visiting from France, and prefer to keep to themselves in general. On such a small island how can anyone keep a low profile? In any case it is a rare oppertunity to meet one and to hear what they have to say (if anything) about their home.

Fact or fiction? Or just raggae nights.
